(iTers News) - 4 years after it launched its first generation of single port PCI Express (PCIe) gigabit Ethernet controller Intel 82574 chip, Intel Corp. recently unveiled a second generation of Intel Ethernet controller 1210 family for desktop, server and embedded system.

The 1210 family is a low-power replacement to the aging 82574 family, supporting advanced features like IEEE802.1 IAS Time Sampling and 802.10av Audio-Video Bridging for better streaming of content.

It also comes with an energy-efficient power management platform called as converged platform power management, or CPPM, which help reduces overall platform power consumption.

It can withstand industrial temperature, making it ideal for industrial automation, in-vehicle infotainment, medical print imaging, telecommunications and military platforms.

Integrated with Gigabit Ethernet media access control (MAC), physical layer (PHY) ports, or SGMII/SerDes port, which can be connected to an external PHY or backplane, the 1210 family comes in a single low power package of 9mm x 9mm.

The I210-AT, I210-IT, and I211-AT models have PHY ports, while the 1210-IS model supports 1SGMII/SerDes port.
