(iTers News) – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled a new breed of hybrid mobile PCs, which combine main features and attributes of tablet and notebook PCs.
Positioned as a flagship product of ‘Samsung Slate PC family’, the 11.6-inch ultra-slim hybrid mobile PC is running on a Windows 7 OS and Intel i5 CPU platform.
The term of ‘slate PC’ was coined by Microsoft to segment what the OS maker newly defines as an in-between product from tablet PCs and notebook computers.
Users can work on the slate PC in the same way that they do a variety of computing jobs with notebook PCs, clicking on a mouse to open files and stroking on a keyboard for data input. But, they can also surf Webs, run a bunch of applications, and read a tons of e-books on the slate PC screen in the same way that they touch on a tablet PC.
“With the debut of our Slate PC family, we wrote a new chapter on the PC industry’s history book,” said Nam, Sung Woo, vice-president with Samsung Electronics.
Weighing just 860 grams and as thin as 12.9mm, Samsung’s hybrid slate PC has a wealth of UIs for data input, allowing users to type in with a keyboard, or tap into a capacitive multi-touch screen with fingers and a stylus pen.
On-screen virtual keyboard is also available.
Its in-built 64GB SSD and super bright plus TFT-LCD display are another eye-popping features that set itself apart from competition.
A short for solid state drive, SSD is a faster write-and read-replacement to a slow-moving, shock-sensitive HDD. Compared with a normal notebook PC with a built-in HDD, the slate PC can boot up its whole system two times as fast, or just in a matter of 15 seconds, and take just 2 seconds to wake up the system from sleep mode for works.
The super bright screen technology has a 170 degree of wide viewing angle, and boasts a brightness of 400 nits.
It has a system memory of up to 4GB DDR3 modules. And, it battery can last as long as 6 hours per charge.
