(iTers News) - What's called as an edge-lit LED back-lighting technology was a key technology enabler that has sped up the penetration of LED BLUs into the LCD TV designs.

As the technology enabled TV makers to build their TV roll-outs  with fewer LED chips than a direct BLU system, it has resulted in significant reductions in production costs, making edge-lit BLU system a mainstream BLU technology

The similar methodology is applied by TSLP of Korea into wall-hanging surface LED lighting  system to cut back on costs, which will help to make a still expensive LED lighting  system an affordable alternative to incandescent bulbs, or fluorescent tubes.

TSLP, Techsign Light  Panel of Korea, introduced a sidebar-type surface LED lighting tube that places LED chips on an edge of the system to use them as light sources.

Compared with direct LED lighting system that mount  rows and columns of LED chips on the whole surface of the circuit board, this sidebar-type surface lighting system is built with less number of LED chips, leading to significant cutbacks on costs.

Yet, it comes with little loss in the brightness, even if it is built with fewer LED chips.

To make up for slight deterioration in the brightness, TSLP has built the sidebar-type LED lighting system with a light guide plate and a white acrylic panel sheet.

Patterned with ultra tiny dots of different diagonal sizes across a whole of its surface,  the acrylic background is to diffuse rays of the LED light in great uniformity to   shed light equally across the whole plate.

The dot pattern design is its indigenous core design technology.  Dots placed somewhere nearest  to the LED sidebar are the smallest in the diagonal size, but the further they get away from the LED lighting source, the bigger they get progressively to absorb more amounts of light and shed them.

The sidebar type surface lighting system is specifically designed to be used with indoor and outdoor advertising billboard or, to replace neon signboards. According to Son Gi Young, general manager for overseas marketing  with TSLP, this system is now being used for Malaysia's Burger King franchise chain stores' signboard lighting system.
