(iTers News) - Ridiculing current glass-clad 3D image technologies, Stream TV Networks sets out to streamline the way people watch and enjoy 3D video images.

Armed with a full set of 3 D hardware and software technology Lego bricks from a proprietary Ultra-D 3D image algorithm to middle-ware to optical lenses, the Philadelphia-based newcomer is scrambling to reestablish a whole manufacturing ecosystem for glass-free 3D TVs.

“3D technology and 3D viewing experiences should be ultra naturalized. They should not be special effects by basically tricking your brain,“ stressed Mathu Rajan, CEO with Stream TV Networks.

According to him, today’s two mainstream 3D technologies are just simply creating 3D effects, making fool of human’s brains to create special effects as if they were watching 3D images.

Take a parallax barrier 3D technology for example. The technology uses barriers to block certain portions of a single image and then send certain portion of the image for the left eye and the different portion for the right eye to create 3D effect.

 Life-like 3D image

“Yet, real 3D image is not there. True 3D image should be done well as if you look out into the widow to see the whole world in front of you and just to reach it. If you see that type of image, that is very good 3D,” added he.

What lies at the heart of StreamTV Networks’ 3D technology offerings is its indigenous Ultra-D technology that can turn any 2D content taken from any source device into glass-free 3D image.

Unlike other 2D to 3D upscaling technology that copies 2D pixel information and then amplifies them for 3D effects, the beauty of the Ultra-D technology is create, and add, or interpolate extra pixel information into the original to give glass-free 3D viewing experiences.

Built with the Ultra-D technology, for example, its ‘SeeCube’ real-time auto-converter box can convert all 2D contents into 3D content with no glasses.

Once plugged into any devices like tablet PCs, Blu-ray players, smartphones, satellite and cable STBs via HDMI cables, the ‘SeeCube’ converter box can and reconstruct 2D image to allow viewers to watch 3D images and videos with no glass on their screens.

No head-tracking

The Ultra-D technology supports all OSes available in marketplace, including iOS from Apple and Android from Google.

“If you just plug into Xbox and Play Station, you can also enjoy 3D gaming experiences (with the SeeCube box), “ emphasized CEO Mathu Rajan.

Another beautiful thing about the Ultra-D technology is that the technology allows users to adjust the amount of 3D images using a remote controller, often moving further forward them, or pushing backward deep into the screen.

No head-tracking is what makes its Ultra-D technology stand out from competition, too. Often known as face-tracking, the head-tracking effect is about a ghost phenomenon where viewers suddenly lose 3D image whenever their faces, or heads veer out of the 3D viewing area.

"Our technology is also the first and only one of all 3D technologies available ever in the market place, which can generate viewing angle," said CEO Mathu Rajan.

Chinese dream

The Ultra-D technology has no limit in applications, too, well fitting into all screens of all sizes from smartphones to tablet PCs to notebook PCs to large-screen TVs to render glass-free 3D images.

“In less than 18 months since 3D technology was debuted in early 2010, the percentage of 3D TV against the total TVs shipments  hits about 25%, according to some market estimates. With the debut of our glass-free 3D technology, I bet the percentage will go further higher,“ said he.

Not only to live up to the potentials, but also expand its Ultra-D technology ecosystem, Stream TV is tpartnering with Chinese TV makers like Pegatron and Hi-Sense, enabling them to build their Ultra-D-based glass-free 3D TV panel.

According to Stream TV Networks, TV and LCD panel makers alike can convert their 2D LCD panels into 3D one by just adding, molding its optical lenses to their 2D LCD panels.

OEM contract Pegatron is now considering making a whole range of glass-free 3D devices from smartphones to TVs, according to him using Stream TV Networks’ hardware and software technology

He estimates 18 million 3D TVs with no glasses will ship in China this year.

Stream TV Networks also signed a technical partnership with Hi-Sense of China to drive up production of Ultra-D glass-free 3D TVs.
