(iTers News) – Napatech, Inc. of Denmark showed off a line of intelligent network adopters at World IT Show that opened today at COEX exhibition hall in Seoul and will run through May 18.

Thomas Jorgensen, co-founder and vice president with Napatech, who is in charge of Asia Pacific sales, said, “Napatech Inc. is manufacturing high-speed network card(adapter) for use in network monitoring and network analysis as well as Internet-related security products. So, we have a product line-up of adopters that can perform at a speed of from one gigabit to 40 gigabit. We are a leader in world market for network acceleration card.”

Added he, “We sell our product to companies that are creating solutions for network monitoring and network analysis. We are an OEM manufacturer. We sell this card and components. Our customers build solutions and boxes and then sell telcos and enterprises, which are mostly among Fortune 500 companies around the world.”

According to him, Napatech’s key building block technology is zero packet loss, which can guarantee you see all the packets on the network, including even 40 gigabit packets, when it comes to network traffic analyze. The working theory is straightforward. Its network analysis technology take and analyze network traffic and can discard traffic which customers are not interested and transfer traffic into applications to network monitor and analysis.

Highlighting the network adopter product line-up is onboard IEEE1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) support on Napatech 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps intelligent network adapters. This PIP will allow Napatech customers to synchronize appliances using Napatech intelligent network adapters to an IEEE1588 PTP master or to use Napatech network adapters as an IEEE15888 PTP master for other systems.

The product release follows the recent launch of the Napatech Time Synchronization Endpoint (NTTSE) product, which provides retrofitted support for IEEE15888 PTP time synchronization for existing Napatech network adapter installations.

IEEE1588 PTP is growing in importance as it provides an effective means of distributing time synchronization information in locations where it is otherwise cost prohibitive or impractical to install GPS antenna.

The IEEE1588v2 PTP time synchronization protocol is based on a hierarchical master-slave configuration, allowing multiple devices to synchronize clocks over a distributed packet-based network.

Synchronization messages exchanged between the PTP master and slave include nanosecond time-stamps that allow the PTP slaves to adjust their clock frequencies to compensate for delay in the network and thereby provide an accurate time of day clock reference.

The highly prized market

Existing Napatech intelligent network adapters use time synchronization to support nanosecond precision time-stamping of captured packets, which enables precise merging of data from multiple

ports and adapters in the same appliance as well as supporting accurate network monitoring analysis and troubleshooting as well as precise latency measurement.

The recently announced refresh of Napatech 4x1 Gbps products will include on-board IEEE1588 PTP support. In addition, on-board IEEE1588 PTP support will be provided in a 2x10 Gbps

product variant.  The new on-board IEEE1588v2 PTP products are planned for release in Q4 2012.

Napatech is the leading OEM supplier of 40 GbE, 10 GbE and 1 GbE intelligent adapters for real-time network analysis with over 100,000 Ethernet ports deployed. Napatech network adapters provide real-time packet capture and transmission with full line-rate throughput and zero packet loss no matter the packet size. Intelligent features enable off-load of data traffic processing and packet analysis normally performed in the CPU. This results in more processing power for the network monitoring, analysis, management, test, measurement, security or optimization application being supported.

Napatech is now operating sales, marketing and R&D offices in Mountain View, Andover (MA), Washington D.C., Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, Copenhagen Denmark.

Its Japanese office opened just one and half a year ago, and serving about 10 customers, which are mostly supplying big telecom service operators and enterprises like NTT, KDDI and Softbank, just to name just 3.

“All the telcos are doing network recording and network monitoring. We guarantee everything is going well on the network. It’s really hard to do that when you talk about 40 gigabit speed, “said vice president Thomas Jorgensen.

This board can take 4 ten gigabit signals, for example.   We can see all the data and work to analyze them, and send them to the software applications, added he.

In Korea, the company is working together with 8 or 9 customers and is expanding rapidly since its inception one year ago. All combined, the Asia-Pacific region is the hottest growth area, he added.
