(iTers News) – One and half a year after Microsoft first talked about the concept of table-top Surface PCs at CES2011, the software giant turns the concept into real products, unveiling two tablet PC versions of Surface PC.

At a product launching event held today in Hollywood, Los Angel, Microsoft introduced two models of Surface tablet PCs: one running on ARM processor and Windows RT and the other that is powered by Intel’s X-86 processor architecture-based Ivy Bridge processor and Windows 8 Pro.

Both of them are sporting 10.6 inch LCD screens

Back in early 2011 when the software giant first showed off the Surface PC concept, what made it to stick out from other PCs was its vision technology-based UI, or user interface, which is based on an array of pixel sensors. The pixel sensors were acting like a camera not only to detect objects on the top of a Surface PC to project them, but also detect and read whatever moves on the surface.

Yet, the two tablet PC versions feature two front- and rear-facing HD quality cameras, but it is still unclear whether they act as originally envisioned.

Another standout of the Surface table PCs is its touch cover and integrated kickstand. Using unique pressure sensitive sensor, the 3 mm touch cover works as a full keyboard with a track-pad. As it sense key strokes as gestures, it allows users to touch types faster than with an on-screen keyboard.

The touch cover plugs into the Surface tablet PC via a built-in natural spine-shape magnetic connector, coming into vibrant colors. .

The integrated kickstand is another differentiator, coming encased in what’s called as VaporMg-treated materials. Using the VaporMg treatment technology, magnesium materials are combined with other metals to mold the parts as thin as 0.65 mm, thinner than the size of a traditional credit card. The kickstand sticks out slightly when users are in need, but it folds in like the tail of a photo frame when not needed.

The Surface tablet PC model on Windows RT platform is powered by ARM cored based Tegra 3 CPU of Nvidia Ltd. and will go on sale when Windows 8 is released. The ARM and Windows RT version weighs 676 grams and is 0.37 inches thick. The Intel Ivy Bridge version will be available 90 days later.

Prices will be announced sometime near when the devices are available.
