Borqs partners with Red Bend for updating automotive software over-the-air
(iTers News) – Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1.75 billion Red Bend-Enabled devices, today announced that Borqs, a leading provider of end-to-end Android and cloud software solutions, chose Red Bend Software to be a strategic partner in developing a family of Borqs automotive software products, bringing the industry’s leading automotive software management solution to Chinese car manufacturers and Tier 1 providers.
Through this collaboration, car owners can receive a continuously better infotainment experience with new features and applications delivered wirelessly to their car. This announcement is an extension of a partnership that started between the companies in 2008 when Borqs integrated Red Bend’s firmware over-the-air (FOTA) and device management (DM) software into Borq’s Android-based handsets sold through China Mobile. Since then, Borqs has expanded its product offerings to include Android-based tablets, M2M control modules, smart appliances and automotive IVI systems.
The Borq’s in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platform offers a brand new security design, Android optimization and rear-camera switching features. It has been chosen by four automotive OEMs in China and will be embedded into three vehicle models available later in 2013 and a fourth available next year. All IVI applications are integrated with several features including an AM/FM radio, media player and navigation functions. Telematics services are available for integration with an app store, voice recognition and the infotainment system can be connected to a mobile device via a mirror link protocol.
“With Red Bend’s Mobile Software Management portfolio, we can provide innovative solutions, such as firmware over-the-air updating and mobile virtualization to our automotive OEM customers, enabling them to offer a more sophisticated infotainment system and a better user experience,” said Pat Chan, CEO, Borqs International Holding Corp. “After six years of partnering with Red Bend to deliver innovative smartphones to consumers, we are excited to bring their best-in-class software management solution to the automotive market as well and to continue exploring additional markets where Android devices need to be reliably managed.”
Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile is the leading standards-based solution for updating in-vehicle software and applications over-the-air. It has been chosen by major automotive OEMs in both the United States and Europe because it reduces the time and cost associated with managing automotive software from the production line to the dealership to the driveway;

We started our partnership with Borqs on mobile devices and now we partnering to ensure that IVI platforms can be made continuously better,” said Danny Wang, Country Manager, China, Red Bend Software. “We are honored to partner with Borqs to enable their automotive OEM customers to meet aggressive time-to-market goals, dramatically reduce warranty costs from software maintenance, and provide a friendly user experience to the vehicle owners.”
