(iTers News) - Encouraged by the growing popularity of Chromebook notebook PCs, Google takes a bold step to make a headlong push into the mainstream notebook PC market. The world’s largest mobile OS maker debuts a much-touted touch screen laptop computer called as Chromebook Pixel – a reference product that PC OEMs like Samsung, Acer and Lenovo refer to as a reference design to build their own devices .

Powered by Intel’s Core i5 CPU, the Chrmetouch-capable laptop sports a 12.85-inch display of 2500x1700 resolution at a pixel density of 239 ppi in what the company said is the world’ highest pixel density.

Packing 4.3 million pixels into that tiny screen size, each pixel must be reduced to microscopic levels, living up to Google’s goal to make pixels disappear. This sea of pixels gives consumers yet unprecedented immersive and engaging viewing experiences, offering sharp text, vivid colors and extra-wide viewing angles..

Instant boot-up is another attraction. It is built with a SSD, or solid state drive that boasts a lot faster readout of OS, compared with a HDD,. So, “if you turn on the Chrome Pixel and open up the lid, screen is just jumping out at you,” Google said.

The shape is slim an streamlined, as it comes with as few lines, marks, and screws as possible. Not only are vents hidden, too, but also its stereo speakers are seamlessly tucked away beneath the backlit keyboard.

It come equipped with a powerful, full-range speakers for crisp sound, a 720p webcam for clear video, and a total of three microphones designed to cancel out surrounding noise.

It has a built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and LTE base band chip. Users also can take advantage of one terabyte of Google Drive cloud storage space to save, access and share photos, videos, documents.

The start price of the Chrome Pixel Wi-Fi version is US$1,299, and will be available next week. Selling for US$1449, the LTE version will be available in April in the U.S. market.

It runs on Google Chrome OS, of course.

According to Google’s blog post, “Samsung Chromebook has been No.1 on Amazon’s bestseller list for laptops every day since it launched 125 days ago in the U.S., and Chromebooks now represent more than 10% of notebook sales at Currys PC World, the largest electronics retailer in the U.K.”
