(iTers News) - Hanwha Q CELLS said that it has signed a memorandum of understanding or MOU with Whitfield County, Georgia to build what would be the largest solar module factory in the U.S.

The construction will begin sometime in the year and is scheduled to start commercial production sometime in 2019.

Once constructed, it will generate electric power of 1.6GW which is equivalent to electricity used by about 2.5 million people a year.

Other specific details are yet available.

The local government and the county agreed to provide free land and tax benefits worth US$30 million in total.

The United States is the world’s second largest solar power cell market after China.
