Under the terms of the agreement, UDC will provide its Universal PHOLED phosphorescent OLED materials and licenses its own proprietary OLED technology to Samsung Display.
Samsung has already been using UDC’s phosphorescent OLED materials and patents to manufacture its OLED panel modules for years now.
The Korean display maker has paid tremendous amount of license fee to UDC, paying US$60million in 2015 and US$75million in 2016 for the license fee alone.
UDC is one of Samsung OLED ecosystem partners who supply OLED materials including Merck, Idemitsu Kosan, and Dow Dupont.
