The institute has already broken the world’s record in the energy conversion rate of perovskite-based solar battery cells for the five times.

Perovskite battery cell is one of a next generation of solar battery cell technologies that can act as an alternative for today’s solar cell battery. It is so cheap and so flexible that it can be used with a variety of form factors, compared with conventional rigid solar battery cells.

Perovskite is a next-generation high efficient photovoltaic material that has high energy conversion efficiency.

The team has started to develop perovskite-based solar battery cell from 2012.

The new perovskite-based battery’s energy conversion rate almost reaches somewhere near  silicon-based solar battery cells, of which conversion rate is is about 25~26%, ,but outmaneuver  other solar battery technologies such as CdTe (cadmium and telluride) solar battery cell and CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, selenium) solar battery cell, of which conversion rates are 22.1% and 22.6%, respectively .

The research team plans to improve the new perovskite-based solar battery cell’s conversion efficiency and safety related problems.
