Scheduled to hit shelves from September 15th, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with enhanced UI/UX focusing more on software upgrades than advancing hardware such as batteries.

The software-centric innovations represents a shift in Samsung’s new product development strategy, as its past hardware-centric innovations like fast wireless charging and water-and dust-resistant features often risks get ridden with bugs.

True enough,  the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone is meant to redefine what is called as multi-tasking smartphone with two innovative features- super-large screen and stylus-based S pen.

Equipped with a 6.3-inch bezel-less QHD+ Infinity display of 18.5:9 screen ratio, the new smartphone delivers more room to watch image and video contents, enabling users to read  bigger-sized texts, and produce creative contents such as drawings and pictures.

The large-size screen also allows users to do several different tasks at once.

With the Galaxy Note 8, the new App Pair feature enables users to create a custom pair of apps on the Edge Panel and simultaneously launch two apps with ease. For example, user can watch a video while messaging or dial into a conference call with number and agenda.

Samsung said its stylus ‘S Pen’ is also greatly updated in terms of both UI/UX and features. The new stylus was made to provide writing experience similar to that of actual pen and pencil.

One of its new features is that animated texts or drawings can be shared across SNS and online platforms that support animated GIFs.

For example, a message or picture can be handwritten with the S Pen, send or share it with someone in a message or Facebook and Instagram.

S Pen also features translation services. When sentences in foreign languages are highlighted with S Pen, it instantly translates it in a matter of few seconds. The service supports up to 71 different languages across the world.

Running on Android 7.1.1, the new smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor and Exynos 8895. It has 64GB of storage with microSD support, 6GB of RAM, and 3,300mAh battery. The battery size is slightly smaller than its Galaxy Note 7.

The large-screen smartphone comes with a rear-facing dual-camera system which is composed of one 12-megapixel or MP telephoto lens and one 12MP wide-angle lens. Both camera lenses are adopted with optical image stabilization or OIS technology to support smooth image and video taking. It has 8MP rear camera on front.

Samsung’s voice assistant technology Bixby is also embedded in the new phone. Bixby service on Galaxy Note 8 will be available in 200 countries in Korean and English.

To work in various environments, both Galaxy Note 8 and S Pen are water and dust resistant with IP68 certification.

To strengthen security, Galaxy Note 8 supports latest security technologies such as fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, and face recognition, said Samsung.

Samsung is also bringing DeX to the Note which connects the new smartphone to monitor. When smartphone is plugged in to the required dock, desktop-like experience with monitor, mouse, and keyboard is provided.

Available in four colors-black, orchid gray, maple gold, and deep-sea blue, the new smartphone will be come in both 64GB and 256GB models. The 64GB model will be available at an entry price point of US$797.66 and the 256GB sells for US$974.92.

“We appreciate the relentless passion of the Note community. They’ve been a constant inspiration to us and we designed the new Note for them,” said Koh Dong-jin, president of mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics. “From the Infinity Display to the enhanced S Pen and a powerful Dual Camera, the Galaxy Note8 lets people do things they never thought were possible.”
