(iTers News) - Qualcomm Inc. has signed a deal with Volkswagen to supply its Snapdragon SoC solution for the German car maker’s 2018 car line-up.

The U.S mobile SoC chip maker said that the company will be supplying its Snapdragon 820A applications processor chips to up power car infotaiment systems for Volkswagen’s 2018 vehicle lie-ups.

The design-win with Volkswagen marks the U.S. chipmaker’ first milestone victory in the recent attempts to make its name in the car infotainment system market.

The Snapdragon 820A, or automotive is a custom-made SoC solution to meet stringent requirements of the car market for temperature, safety and durability.

Fabricated with a 14nm FinFET 3D advanced chip circuitry technology, the 820A comes complete with  Qualcomm Technologies' custom 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU and Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP Vector eXtension.

The two companies also agreed to cooperate in the German car maker’s 2019 vehicle line-up design scheme. The deal calls for Qualcomm to supply LTE modem chip solutions called as X12 and X15 for in-vehicle Internet connectivity system of the 2019 car models.

Both modems are designed to support fast downloads, swift application performance, as well as provide enhanced thermal efficiency and optimized power consumption. The Snapdragon X12 LTE modem delivers download speed of up to 600 Mbps and upload speed of up to 150 Mbps, while the Snapdragon X5 LTE modem supports download speed of up to 150 Mbps and upload speed of up to 50 Mbps.
