(iTers News) - Self-driving car will soon cruise along driveways across California state. California governor Jerry Brown signed on Sept. 26 a law that allows test-runs of self-driving autonomous car on the California state’s roadways on the condition that people with a driver license nestle into a driver’s seat to come to the rescue in case it drives out of control

“Today we are looking at science fiction become tomorrow’s reality,” Brown was quoted by Bloomberg as saying at a signing ceremony at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Search engine and smartphone OS giant Google is aggressively championing self-driving and autonomous car system, retooling a fleet of Toyota cars with video cameras, radar sensors, a laser rangefinder and detailed maps to let them drive on their own. They also have a failsafe mechanism that get the assistant driver to take back the control.

The law stipulates the Department of Motor Vehicle to set new regulations regarding licensing, testing and operation of self-driving passenger cars
