BOE of China made a decision to invest 46.5 billion yuan (approximately 7.56 trillion won)) in the build-up of a 6th generation of OLED fabrication facility to produce small-and medium-sized OLED panels.

Named as ‘B15’, the 6th generation facility line is the fourth of its OLED production constellation, once it goes on line.

To be constructed in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, the line will operate at a month capacity of 48,000 glass substrates.

Called fter the size of the glass substrate, the 6th generation line will use 1500mm x 1850 mm glass substrates. Commercial operation of the 6th line is scheduled to start in 2024.

With its  wo earlier OLED investment plans in the pipeline, BOE broke ground in December to start construction of B12 OLED facility in Chongqian City.

Once all four facilities constructed as scheduled , the Chinese display panel makers will have collectively a combined monthly capacity of 192,000 glass substrates based on the Gen 6 glass, outmaneuvering world leader Samsung Display.

BOE’s hurries into the OLED production is to keep up with changes in the Chinese government’s industrial subsidy policy in favor of OLED production away from LCDs.

Worried over the possible supply gluts in the LDC production capacity, the Chinese government decided to stop subsidizing LCD production.
