The operation of new facilities would double the Korean cathode materials maker’s cathode production capacity.

The ceremony was attended by the Korean cathode maker’s partners including LG Chem and Samsung SDI.

Each new production facility will be producing 4,000 tons of cathode materials per year. With the establishment, Posco Chemtech is now capable of producing 16,000 tons of cathode materials annually.

The Korean cathode material maker is supplying the cathode materials for various battery makers, including cathode materials for small-sized batteries for IT devices and large-size batteries for electric cars.

Its main buyers are Korean battery makers like LG Chem and Samsung SDI.

Posco Chemtech plans to further bulk up its production capacity to up to 40,000 tons, as demand for batteries is rapidly increasing due to applications like energy storage system or ESS and electric cars.
