(iTers News) - Dr. ES Jung is executive vice president of Semiconductor R&D Center at Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions. The Semiconductor R&D Center covers a broad range of R&D activities from fundamental research to chip level testing in 3 major business areas, which includes Memory, Advanced Logic, and New Memory Technology.  

 

He spoke of how to break through technology stalemates facing chip industry at his keynot speech for Semicon Korea 2015, which was held in Seoul, Korea between Jan. 27-29, as the chip industry is now going through      

 

Dr. Jung first joined Samsung Electronics in 1985, and was Principal Engineer of Product Development at its System LSI Business until 2004, when he was appointed head of SOC and Technology Design as Vice President, before becoming the head of the Manufacturing Operation Center in 2011 as Senior Vice President. Dr Jung was promoted to Executive Vice President in December 2012, and became the General Manager of the Semiconductor R&D Center.

 

Since joining Samsung Electronics, Dr. Jung gained recognition for overseeing the entire semiconductor R&D process, from device development at the R&D Center to technology, process, and architecture development as well as manufacturing DDI, CIS, Smart Card, Application Processors and ultimately achieving number one market share globally and for guiding the successful development of the 3D V-NAND in 2013 as well as 20/14nm Logic Devices. Dr. Jung is also continually striving for the success of next generation New Memory devices in particular the STT-MRAM.  

 

He is also an actively working board member of various international conference and consortiums such as IMEC, SEMATECH and G450C.

 

Dr. Jung has published numerous papers and articles in International Conferences. He holds a B.S. from Seoul National University in Physical Science Education, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Seoul National University and the University of Texas at Arlington.
